Global Fashion Collective

Lucy London presented us with an opportunity to work with the Global Fashion Collective during London Fashion Week.

"To put on exclusive runway showcases in fashion capitals around the world to promote the work of emerging designers and bring about a more inclusive and diverse industry" - Global Fashion Collective

Woke up at 5AM and ready to go, we arrived and were immediately put into groups to assist the different designers with fittings. The designer I was assigned to was Iann Dey. A lot of the AM was helping models in and out of clothes whilst the designers decided which model was going to wear which look. One thing I noticed is that they were trying to fit the looks with the models that were closest to the measurements of the look, which means that it was not pre planned and organised or fitted.

After a few hours we were told to go for lunch and to meet back at the next location where the runway would be held.

As soon as we got there we were asked to wheel suitcases into their area, set up the rails, get the garments out and lay the accessories on the table. Whilst we set up, the models waited to get their hair and makeup done. Global Fashion Collective work with BullyBlocker who are a makeup company focused on making the products do good for your skin, almost skincare makeup. They also work at fashion weeks with makeup artists.

When the models were hair and makeup ready they asked some of us that were working if we wanted it sit down for makeup touch ups, we of course said yes.

Whilst we were running around arranging, steaming, organising, assisting, Iann day asked if I would stand in their wedding skirt so that they could adjust how it was sitting.

Later on it was time to get the models dressed and paired with their shoes. Assisting and making sure they were with their correct outfits. Baring in mind there were last minute switches.

These are Iann Deys designs, they are a brand from Mexico that have travelled internationally with the Global Fashion Collective showcasing their designs.

I was really surprised with the food they offered out to everyone - sandwiches, snacks, lots of fruit! They also supplied bath salts at the end for the models to take home. The treatment of the models and how everyone spoke to each other was really positive and I would love to work with both of these companies again in the future.

Before the show they had a practice walk and was instructed by the designers and directors what to do, where to walk and when to come back, as well as timings.

Then it was time to walk.

..showtime.

After the show everyone gathered to take some photos and then we helped get the models undressed and clothes packed away.

This experience affirmed that I am doing something I love and that I am in the right industry . The culmination of everyones hard work shown in 10 minutes is worth every second of the work before it.
